Bhotekoshi Flash Flood Response – Nuwakot

29 August 2026: Following the devastating Bhotekoshi Flash Flood of 26 August 2026, INF Nepal, Asal Chhimekee Nepal (ACN) and Pokhara Christian Community (PCC) have joined hands to provide immediate humanitarian assistance to affected communities.

As the first collaborative relief initiative, a relief material has been dispatched to Bhairav Secondary School, Bidur Municipality-8, Nuwakot which is currently serving as a mass shelter for approximately 1,500 displaced and affected people. The initial assistance includes food items, hygiene supplies, winterization materials and basic first-aid and water-filtering items.

The response is being carried out in coordination with Nuwakot District Administration Office, Bidur Municipality-8 and local community representatives.

An INF Nepal representative and an ACN representative have already been in the field for the past three days, coordinating with the local government and assessing the evolving needs of the affected population.

First Relief Dispatch

The first relief material has been dispatched from the INF Nepal and Asal Chhimekee Nepal central office at approximately 1:00 PM, comprising:

• Three fully loaded trucks
• One Scorpio vehicle

The relief materials are being transported to Bhairav Secondary School, Bidur Municipality – 8, Nuwakot, where approximately 1,500 people are currently sheltered.

The assistance is expected to provide approximately 10 days of food support for the mass shelter, along with essential hygiene and other emergency items.

An INF Nepal representative and an ACN representative have been stationed in the field for the past three days. They are working closely with local authorities to understand the situation, coordinate the response and identify priority needs.

This field presence will also help ensure that subsequent assistance is based on verified needs and coordinated with other response actors, avoiding duplication of support.

Immediate Priorities

The immediate priorities of the collaborative response are:

• Safe delivery and receipt of the first relief materials.
• Support to approximately 1,500 people currently staying in the mass shelter.
• Continued coordination with local government and district authorities.
• Further rapid assessment of affected and displaced households.
• Identification of vulnerable individuals and families requiring additional support.
• Assessment of further needs related to food, shelter, WASH, health, psychosocial support and essential household items.

Planning subsequent relief and early-recovery interventions based on verified needs.

• The safety and protection of staff, volunteers and response teams working in the affected areas.
• The affected and displaced families, especially those who have lost loved ones, homes, belongings and livelihoods.
• Affected/displaced people currently sheltered in public places (schools, churches, etc.), for their safety, health and wellbeing.
• Local and government authorities responsible for coordinating search, rescue, relief and recovery.
